A terraced house collapsed leaving a gaping hole in a street where homes fetch over £1.5 million.

The two storey property in West Hampstead suffered a total collapse with floors and the frontage reduced to rubble but the roof left intact but hanging precariously without any support.

Residents living next to the boarded up property were evacuated as firefighters tried to make the property safe.

London Fire Brigade said: “One fire engine and one fire rescue unit and 10 firefighters have been called to house collapse on Sumatra Road in Hampstead.

“There has been a total collapse of the two storey property from the roof to basement level.

“Ten people were evacuated from neighbouring properties. There are no reported injuries.

“Firefighters are making the scene safe and are working with the local authority’s structural engineer.

“The Brigade was called at 12.06pm. Fire crews from West Hampstead and Battersea fire stations are at the scene.”
